Lone Survivor--A salute to all who have surved

Just left seeing "Lone Survivor". 

I am reminded of my residency days, training with Viet Nam combat Vets in the VA Hospital.  When I led groups and heard them recount their combat experiences, I was convinced that I could never have endured what they had to go through.  In 1971, my lottery number was 71, though accepted to med school, they had stopped college deferments, so I would surely have gone to Nam.  Only the end to the draft that year spared me. I wondered if I could have survived even a week.

As I left viewing Lone Survivor, a deep sense of gratitude and respect for those who have served welled up within me.

To Frank (frankfishing) and all those survivors...I salute you!

Mine was 283. I'm so happy that now , noatter what the public view on the war is, that our servicemen and women come home treated with respect and appreciation.

Desert Storm was my era.

Interesting to find out that there is a memorial in Cupertino for two of the Seals from Cupertino who died in Operation Red Wings:

"The Guardians is a very moving image of two defenders, ever watchful,
back to back.  The two soldiers represented are Cupertino's own
Matthew Axelson, and James Suh, two Navy SEAL's who died fighting
the Taliban in Afghanistan during Operation Red Wings."

We must be the Same age in 71 my lottery number was 8! I had to visit induction center, but I was 4f. Due to Cystic Fibrosis, Yes I'm extremely old with that condition. 

loved the book.  impressed by Luttrell's interviews.  can't wait to see movie. 

kind of funny that Marky Mark is nearly 10 inches shorter than Luttrell, but I've read he does the role justice.
