I've been recording my food for about a week and one thing that stands out is how much salt I'm consuming.   Guess knowing is half the battle.

Unless a doctor has told you to worry about it, I would not worry about salt intake, dietary cholesterol, and the like.

I got my gym time in last night.  60 minutes elliptical and

Down to 173 from 175 after a week. Aiming at loosing 1 to 2 lbs a week.

Slowly but surely getting close to 155 lbs:
1/07/2014     175
1/14/2014     173
1/22/2014     168

Biggest lost so far. Was suprised myself. But have to admit mostly due to juicing carrots and vegetables (Hallelujah Diet) along with tracking food intake at MFP  and mild strength training with dumbells/weights plus cycling 30-40 miles per week. MFP daily calorie goal has always been on the minimum range as the juicing takes away the appetite for eating so I have to force myself to eat more.

"Crash", your program works. Glad you started it.

Right on!

My Monday weigh in was 217. 1 lb a week is a win. No missed gym days.

Anyone else have numbers to report?

If your skin turns orange you should slow down on the carrots.

I wash my hands after peeling the carrots, then dry the carrots so I dont stain my palms.  I'd hate where that stain might end up  :smt003  :smt044

Jumped on the bandwagon last week finishing up my second week love that app, really like that it helps me monitor the caloric intake and all. That is my largest problem, but hoping I stick with this one and keep it up.

Tight Lines, and loose belts.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Crash,

No change for week 3 but weight is maintained at 168. Still going for 155 but now having 2nd thoughts.
Got a question for you.

I’m on a 10 week training program for the upcoming 100 mile Monterey Sea Otter Classic on April 12. Did 50 miles last Saturday 2/1 for my 2nd week sched. Was OK for the first 35 miles but ran out of energy for the remaining 15 with leg cramps glooming on both legs. Barely finished it but really ran out of energy. Had a good breakfast and had the following during the ride: 2 bananas, 2 water bottles of water and 2 fig bars.

Looks like the weight loss contributed to it also leaving me no fuel reserves and fats to burn. Doing some reading of Fueling for a Strong Century and found out that I need to stash on my carbohydrates/glycogens and electrolytes.

What do you suggest so I can train right and finish strong?

I don't really know as endurance training is something I've never done. I have to thnk that you should eat at least at maintenance and sleep a lot. I'll ask my endurance runner buddy about it or maybe yakuza et al will chime in here.

Zfor the last several days I've been dealing with a very bad hamstrng cramp. It's almost seized up on me. The lacrosse ball exercise that has helped the most is sitting on my truck tailgate (a table would work if your WAF can afford it - mine can't) with my legs hanging off. Work the lax ball under my leg until I find the spot (they are all over and not hard to find), then apply pressure by pressing down with my hands as hard as I can. After 15-30 seconds, and while still putting pressure down on the leg over the ball, I put my knee through its range of motion.  Hurts like hell but works like a charm.

I saw that you are in your early sixties. I have done many long rides in that decade bracket and what often happens to older guys is that the ability to metabolize food and water slows  down to preserve oxygen for the brain and heart. You may have to slow your riding pace to match the ability to metabolize food and water intake. Long rides will help train the body to at least partly overcome the digestive issue. The night before and the morning of, a long ride, load up on carbs. Once in your system they will fuel you for the first 40 to fifty miles.. You might also try some powered fuels sold in bike shops and mixed with water. They seem to convert to energy better than solid food when the body is under stress. Find the right pace for you and don't try to hang riders biking faster than you normally would. Good luck in this.
