Hi everyone,

I've been lurking on here for a little while so I wanted to say hello. My brother and I went out a half-dozen times from Stillwater Cove over the summer and now we're completely hooked. We go out in a canoe that my brother modified for stabilization.

So far I've been borrowing a wetsuit from my friend, but it's time I invest in my own. I was wondering if anyone can help advise me on warmth. Should I get a 4/3 or a 3/2? Farmer John or a full body? One complicating factor is that I'm moving to Oregon next Fall, so I want something that could work for me there as well.

Thanks!
Cory

Hi Cory!!

Welcome to NCKA!!!!

Regarding you questions on Wetsuits; thickness on the wetsuit is a little different than for surfing, diving or any other activity where you are in contact with the water for the majority of the activity. 3mm farme john wetsuits are what most kayaker; that should provide you with an added layer of insulation should be accident exit you kayak and then get back on. Plus the farmer john style is less restricting on the arms when you are paddling.

For the upper body, you can either use the matching wetsuit jacket or  use various type of layer and a water-proof shell.

Check out the NRS website; they have a lot of good options for kayakers, including some dry-suits....

Good luck... and welcome to the madness!

Awesome, welcome. More oaktown in the house. There goes the neighborhood.  :smt001
+1 on the fj wetsuit.  Unless you really enjoy armpit rash.  :smt003
