It's is a pretty sweet set-up. We add a "Smudge pot" on top when it's windy.
You can find them at your local vineyard.

I called around the Santa Rosa area to find one. Turns out an appliance repair guy is gonna scrap out a few on Monday. He said they would be free so I will grab as many as possible. The Lake Sonoma crew has first dibs and if there are spares......Stand by.

I took the one out of my old washer. We brought it up to the cabin and the first time we fired it up it erupted! There was some counter balance granular stuff filled in the rim. The stuff was held in with a plastic plug and when it melted the pressure built in the rim blew the stuff all over for twenty feet around it. Scared the crap out of me. The patio was covered in the stuff. So if you get one, check it for the plug. That was the second time I witnessed this. After that they are the best fire pit I've seen. Burn clean and hot.

Got one in the back yard right now - best firepit. Mine was from an older Maytag & has a concrete rim that really adds to the thermal mass making it radiate heat quite nicely. We got the idea at Lawson's Landing.

I found a surplus Industrial laundromat washer and took the drum out of it. The SS drum is set up on an old Chevy rim atop a piece of fire board on my redwood deck. I use the pit for burning leaves and evening fire for family friends to gather round singing song and playing music. Been using it for over 3 years now and can easily stoke it with 8 logs.

I love the smudge pot idea above.  :smt003
