Hey guys I am wanting to put a finder on my yak and this will be my first install I am new to the obsession. I have a wilderness system ride 135 with the track system I was wondering if I should hang it over the side with a mount or install in hull any feed back is appreciated also if I decide in hull how should I go about sticking the transducer thanks.

I prefer inside on mine. The ducer hanging over the side makes a lot of noise. Here are a couple pics of my install. Closed cell foam Gooped to the hull with hole cut for Ducer. This is in my Ride.

I plan to mount mine on a ram mount with the ram transducer mount just like this

The downside of mounting it in the hull is you lose the water temp feature on your unit

someone correct me if Im wrong, but you do get water temp thru the hull if the transducer is in water in the foam block. It just takes longer for the temp to even out and get accurate. Its slower to change also if going from one temp to the next as the plastic hull has to also change temp.

the only temp you get with a water bath is how hot or cold the water in your hull gets

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

which is the temp of the waterbody transferred thru the hull. A friend has his inside and it is within a degree of mine which is in the water.

I have mine mounted on the trax of my Tarpon 120. The tranducer hanging over the side is noisy and it catches debris in the water which makes it even noisier until I clean it off. The plus side is that I can remove it completely if I want to do some non-fishing kayaking. Also it let me use my fish finder the last 8 months without drilling any holes. That has given me time to learn what I like before I consider a permanent mounting location.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan
