I had a few hours mid morning so decided to go crabbing.  I had set my traps and anchored my zodiac about 300 or so yards west of the big yellow buoy.  I was leaning against a pontoon checking messages with a few seagulls nearby to keep me company.  The day was just lovely.  The seagulls started to fly off and landing about 30' from me and started to peck at this thing in the water.  I can see parts sticking out of the water and it looked like a garbage bag at first. I decided to start my motor up to go investigate.  It turned out to be a dead seal.  I got close enough to see the marks left by teeth as opposed to a propeller and that was enough for me to call it a day.  I motored over to the 4 kayaks I saw to warn them.  I left with 4 crab after about an hour.  Lots of shorts.

Those are clearly sea lion bite marks. They must have mistaken it for a Mola Mola  :smt044

I don't get it.
Why take a bite of soft flavory blubber then pass on the rest?
It kind of ticks me off. Not that I have a love for furbags, but if you are going to start in on a meal, for crying out loud, finish it!
And yea, great crab bait.

Man... we gotta go fishing! lol

My dad wanted to use roadkill. I told him that I wasn't sure of the legalities or moral ethics of using someone's pet cat as crab bait.

To answer your PM, here are the two crabbing spots I refrenced, as good as I can tell from my somewhat reliable (or unreliable, depending on if you are the "glass half empty" or "full" type).

The red marks are the crabbing spots where I got limits on two days... the yellow dot is the big yellow boey. The red mark closest to the jetty was the rough day, and the one further out was on the day it looked like a swimming pool out there.
