Kayak detailing with heat gun!

Spotted another great tip on the Texaskayakfisherman forum for detailing the barnacle rash some of us get on our hulls. I have one of these guns and I can imagine it takes a deft hand to do this without putting a hole in your boat!

I can't see any point in doing this. Unless you're trying to sell a boat for more than it's worth, you're just going to go out and earn more scratches. Why take a chance on ruining your boat?

I've done this before. You aren't going to melt a hole in your boat unless you hold the heat gun straight on one spot. The amount of heat it takes to melt these little gouges down is hardly nothing. Every little gouge adds to drag on the hull. I don't think its huge but it has to be there.  Use a leather glove to smooth down the gouges.

it wont do much for an old boat but it will keep your new boat looking good.

Scratches reduce water surface tension and make your boat paddle faster and easier.

Look at the hull on an eddy line. Smooth slick snd fast.
