Yes, I know no Kayak story here. I had limited time and wanted to fish more than load/unload. I met up with some of the Morro Bay Mulisha for an early surf session yesterday. The perch were willing from the first cast to the last. Most were in the ten inch range but some were 15 inchers.

The swell has come down as well as the wind, so I'll be getting the yak back on the water this week.

Awesome, so sweet when you find them, thanks for sharing. Keep any to eat? Loves me some surf perch...If it doesn't rain and the rivers don't come up I'll probably take my fly rod out there too.

I never follow good rockfish with perch unless I am out of rockfishj! Seriously duckin' and weavin' on the beach, I go light. no bucket or stringer for me out there. A fly box and a stripping basket is all I need.

That is super cool! I never managed the dial in the fly fishing cast.

ultralight perching was my go to fishing styles back in the day. Worked part time at a dive shop so I'd hit the beach for a few hours each morning, then could talk real-world conditions with the guys at the shop.

I'd eat the perch poached in green enchilada sauce (we were super poor that winter). Not bad that way.

Yeah I was thinking Calico's due to the indistinct markings on the sides.

I thought that at first, but you can see the vertical markings, so that makes me think barred.  Either way, that is a nice perch and tasty from what I have heard.
