I made one out of 3" yesterday. 30" long. Looks pretty big.

Back when I ran a tube, I flopped back and forth between sizes.  For smaller baits like 'chovies, the 2" tube works better as they couldn't turn around it it.  You want them facing forward so they can swim forward and get the right water flow instead of getting jammed up at the back of the tube.  A 2" tube will still work for 'dines, but is probably a tight squeeze for macks.  Harder to load than the 3", but I think easier to get a single bait out of.  Lower drag than the 3".  Just some things to keep in mind.
