Now that we're all recovered (or at least healing) from Elk, lets get ready to roll one more time!!  We will be camping at the northwest end of Lake Mendocino at a group camp site known as "Angels Camp".  This camp is not for general use so you wont see it on any official map.  The camp has nice rolling terrain, waterfront yak parking, a few tables, and a fire ring for a nice group campfire.  The lake will be bringing in nice porta potties for the event. We will have Angels Camp Friday and Sat. nights.

THERE ARE SEVERAL GATES THAT WILL BE LOCKED AFTER 10 PM EACH NIGHT, SO PRETY-SUPER PLEASE TRY AND ARRIVE BEFORE 10 PM.  IF THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN DO THIS, PLEASE MAKE ARRANGEMENTS IN ADVANCE WITH ME TO GET LET IN, OR YOU WILL BE LOCKED OUT BY THE RANGER...which would be a huge buzz kill!

See these maps below for  detailed directions:

From up high...

The nitty-gritty:

The derby is Sat., from 0600-1330...sound familiar?  Single heavy fish format.  Prizes for 1st-3rd, and a bonus prize for the heaviest kitty.

Potluck and awards Sat. night starting at 6:00 pm.  Kitty award wil be given out Sun. am so you have an extra night of bait soaking.  We will provide yet another keg of premium microbrew, Mol is brewing some homebrew, and the dinner is another tailgate tour de force of outdoor cooking....get your grill on!  Leah has been praticing her outrageous new carne asada recipe...yum!  I have been practicing eating it!  :fat

Unlike Elk, there is a ton of room and no attendance limit, so the more the merrier...lets break another record!!! We hope to raise $1000 or better for the Ukiah Chapter of the California Striped Bass Association.  Mendo would be just another mud puddle without their hard work.  Reg. will be $45 which includes two night of camping.  If there is interest, we will do a striper shirt this time.

Online reg will be up in the next week or so, we hope to see you there!

I am map challenged.  Is this the same area we were in last year?  Or do you have to enter from Hwy 20?

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Woot!

How early on Friday can we arrive?

Hey, what is the water level in the lake right now?  Does anyone know if topo maps are available for Mendo?  (I think I asked this last year too)..

Sean,

Can you make sure the gate is open the morning of the derby for those of us who will day trip it.  Last year it worked out ok as I only had to wait a few minutes for a ranger to drive by, perhaps he saw my headlights and came over to check it out.

I really like the idea of the fish prints that the BBC (Bodega Bay Crew) did at Elk...perhaps we do the same with the Stripers  :smt002 And for those who don't catch any fish at all....you'll have to do a butt print  :smt005 That should give us incentive to catch :smt002

Sean,

I asked my local West Marine rep to  support the event and he's promised a nice donation.  Probably another inflatable PFD or similar.

That's exactly what West Marine donated for our NWKA derby ... flares, compass, bilge pump, first aid kit, strobe light, whistle, and some other goodies.
