I really wanted to come on here and say, yes, I would eat em!

Upon further review......

PCB levels in the entire Bay complex (ARW included) are horrible and haven't gotten any better over the years.

This monitoring/study gives out an F grade (page 13) for PCB's. Too bad, because some of the other pollutants sampled have shown some improvement over the years.

I would NOT eat them.

That is some good information, study was from 2003, be interesting to know if it has continued to improve the last 10 years, hopefully water quality is better.

Brings up another benefit kayak fishermen provide. We introduce very little or no pollutants to the areas we fish unless we purposely dump our garbage or maybe someone occasionally looses something out of their kayak.

Possibly through our efforts we contribute to the day people don't have to worry whether the fish are safe to eat but can take home enough for their families to have a good meal or two while realizing why we don't want to over fish.

I think the PCB problem will not show any changes for many years. Seems it binds to the sediment and is very long-lived. The only solution is removal of all the sediment and that would be quite the undertaking. Hudson River has the same issues as well as parts of the industrial Great Lakes region.

I would still eat halibut and stripers because they probably spend much less time in the Bay. Fish near the GG bridge might be less contaminated. I would think that ANY fish would be better (safer) to eat if that dark strip on the filet and fatty portions of the fish were totally removed and not consumed. It seems that PCB accumulation and fat go hand in hand.

Here's some health info. stuff for PCB's from the EPA website.

I have to limit my intake of fish from Berryessa because of the mercury contamination. Still fun to catch and an occasional meal. I think most of the waters we fish nationwide are cleaner than they were back in the 1950s and 1960s. Some of the pollution will just not go away and time really doesn't help much with the long-lived types.

I read the signs all over the bay.small amounts not too often is fine.and those of you who don't eat anything out of the bay. If you salmon fish give me a heads up before you head out.so you can gift me your catch.that also goes for stripers

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

The short answer is no, don't eat perch out of the bay.

http://oehha.ca.gov/fish/nor_cal/2011SFbay.html
I read this thread because I had a similar question about a striper I got from Sherman island (near Antioch) going by your link... Ok for adult males no good for females under 45... Do you know if this is also true of fish caught in the delta? Assuming so since he came from the bay originally?

The delta has it's own advisories.

Central South http://www.oehha.ca.gov/fish/so_cal/centralsouthdelta.html

North http://www.oehha.ca.gov/fish/so_cal/srnd041108.html

Note that the Lauritzen Channel in Richmond Inner Harbor and the Port of Stockton are no consumption of anything by anybody.

The SF bay and delta recommendations were based on survey data which was published in May 2011. http://oehha.ca.gov/fish/nor_cal/pdf/SFBayAdvisory21May2011.pdf

I don't fish the bay or delta very often because I am a "consumptive" angler (AKA meat hunter) and besides salmon, I wouldn't eat anything from the bay or delta.
