My first paddle through surf was with Bushy (still feel funny with that moniker) at Bean Hollow. Do go have coffee with Allen and he'll fill you with all sorts of good orderly direction. A lesson in surf launching isn't a bad idea either.

Come over tomorrow afternoon for coffee and a chat.  We'll get you going.

A self-rescure class and maybe a surf entry class is a good idea, but not mandatory.  Especially if you make sure to go-out with some other experienced yakkers.  and plenty of us are hitting HMB on a regular basis right now shold be no problem.

Bushy

I would love to drive down and learn from the expert, unfortunately I have something pre-arranged for this afternoon already. Would you have time tomorrow? If not, i can always come down later.

Thanks a million!

I like to give my sincere thanks to Bushy again for his great tasting coffee and super pleasant conversations, matched with top notch advice based on his vast experience. I had a great time this morning meeting you, and believe your advice and pointers will help me for a long time. Looking forward to go out fishing with you in near future!

I know of others who used an inflateable kayak and did really well crabbing with it.

There was a moment of concerns when I seem to loose some rigidity because of low air; but after a few puffs into the breather tube, "she" was back in business!

As she was new to crabbing and kayaking, I made sure I kept a close eye on her throughout the day....

Tong
you should go to crabfest in January at Doran Beach in Bodega Bay

there is a chance you could win a new kayak.

Thanks scubaluis for the great suggestion, unfortunately I am just not patient enough to wait for next year to try my luck. Thanks to Dan(paddleboy), I was able to get my hands on a brand new Old town predator a couple of weeks ago, and I even bought new crab pots for it. Now I just need to get them wet :smt001. If someone don't mind to let a newbie to tag along in HMB and learn, I would really appreciate it.

The Predator really is a pretty remarkable boat.  Paddles surprisingly well, comfy, and dreamy for gear mounting etc.  Handles ocean conditions just fine for me so far, thoughI haven't had it out in really nasty conditions yet, nor tried a surf launch or landing.

Good choice Tong for an all-around fishing machine!

Bushy

ps free at all during the week next week to try catching some santa cruz lingcod?

I for one am glad to hear you won't be in a blow up doll with crabs.  It just doesnt seem safe to me.
I started out in a WS Pungo and a couple good thrashings and I went SOT baby.
Good Choice and you have a true OG helping you out.

Thanks everyone for the compliment on the yak. Funny thing is nobody around me knows much about kayaks, and after they saw the kayak, they were all nice first complimenting it, then hesitantly asked how come it was so old and with all the dirt on it. I did not realize the the urban camo has the presence of old and dirty when I made the color choice (my favorite color combination), but at least when it becomes really old and dirty, it will still looks the same as new :smt044

Allen, it would be great to go catch some santa cruz ling with you! I am relatively free next week, hopefully the weather/swell corporate, and I will pm you on the time.
