Hi

I'm new to kayaking and new here

I'm 6' 4'' 230 pounds a larger man, any suggestions from the members. I live in Sebastopol, looking for an all around kayak, ocean, bay, lake and river.

Thank you in advance

Try a Malibu X-Factor.  Other big guy boats include Jackson Big Tuna, RTM K-Largo, OK Drifter, Cobra F&D...  Derrick's right - demo, demo, demo to see what you like and fits you best.

Good luck and welcome.   :smt001

Wilderness Systems Ride's/Tarpons, our very own Baitman's Raptors, but for gods sakes don't buy a damn thing until AFTER you paddle it!! (Demo-demo-demo!!)
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

cobra kayaks "fish -n - dive" is said to be slower than thinner sleeker yaks and folks call it a pig...but I'm a moose and -slow- stable pig-...words like that dont bug me...if i paddle it gets up on top of the water and moves along very fast...paddling hard with upper body seems to me to make it up ....this is just from what I've seen out on the water - I have yet to see anyone flying along in a fishing yak....so slow is relative....i have heard that miles and miles of paddling would be a workout...i love a workout...who cares

Jackson big rig would be my first recommendation. But don't over look the X-factor or fish and dive. Between the three I would say demo and find what you like the most. Some people hate the foot wells on cobras, some people hate the big hatch on the Malibu's it's all about your preference. I have a new fish and dive in stock in Redding for a great price, or we'll have our big rig demo in the first part of December. I know it's a long drive to redding but there is options out there for you.

I'm 6'3" and around 220#.  There are not very many kayaks that feel small to me.  Ok the OK Scupper Pro is a tad small to me.  But what I'm really trying to say is that I don't feel the need to specifically identify a tall man's kayak (or even a big mans kayak) for me.

I have a 34" inseam though, and in some kayaks I just fit.  If you have a longer inseam, you might find some kayaks that have a cockpit (leg room) that may be a tad short for you.

And I believe you trianglelaguna ... a Cobra F&D would be a good kayak for you!

We have two Hobie Outbacks. I'm 6'3" 235lbs and feel really stable even in the swells. Advantage of the Mirage drive for me is I do a lot of photography and I don't trust my Nikon D7000 in anything else. Paddles drip water all over! Trolling is also great using the pedals. You can hold your coffee or other liquids while cruising along. My lower body is much more able to pedal all day rather than paddle!  Demo them!

just looking at the x factor and  I like look and the reviews...I dont like the 14'+ part or the loss of  front deck area ...but it does look more refined and modern/thought out...my fish n dive is all open deck when compared though...now I want another kayak...must stop shopping...must stop

I would say at your size you are not "super large". There are a lot of kayaks out there that you will be comfortable in. My personal preference is to not get a kayak with molded in foot wells. With longer legs you may get stuck in an uncomfortable leg position. Kayaks with adjustable foot pegs are the way to go for taller guys in my opinion. A lot of good suggestions so far. Now my shameless plug. Look at the Wilderness Tarpon 140. Very stable and fairly sleek and easy to paddle. Ask Weimarian or KayakJack for their opinions on that kayak. Ron's a bigger guy and Jack used to take his daughter out on the back of his in her own little seat.
