Hey Kayakers.  Anyone ever try changing their camera batteries out on the water.  Has someone figured out an easy way to do this?  If so please lend me your tips.  This is how I've been getting it done on my tandem the camera is far away I usually have to climb up to get it.  This time at Lake Tahoe in particular was tricky climbing over battery and fishfinder, downrigger and rods.  Would suck to tip.  Well in case you are interested in seeing it here it is.  If you have any tips let me know, thanks.

That's a very risky task. I fish mostly freshwater and never very far from shore. I just paddle to land and make the change there.

Interested in the responses though. 😬

Yeah I agree, if I'm on a small lake I go to shore.  But when on the ocean and a big lake that is not really possible.  Help!

Save yourself the risk of flipping and spend 60 on the back pack.

How much battery life do you get with the backpack?

On which GoPro version and which settings Glen?

GoPro quotes much lower runtimes for the GoPro 3's ... http://gopro.com/support/articles/hero3-battery-life

5.5hrs???? Maybe with it Off ;) Lol.

GoPro Hero 3 Black editions are notorious Energy guzzlers.
With a backpack, running at 720p with Protune off you would be lucky to get over 3hrs.

Thanks.  I still have the GoPro Hero HD, prior to the Hero2.  Might make the jump to the Hero 3+ this year since I read it has longer battery life.  Still happy with my good ol Hero HD and the underwater housing though, but my batteries only last 2 hours.

I still have 1 HD version and I like it better than the GP3; better battery life and only minimal lost in pic/vid quality...... I think the GP2 was there best unit so far.....

I was going to pick up the Hero3, read of the weak battery run times and ended up with an Ebay package on a Hero2, extra battery and 32gb card for $150.  Couldn't be happier with it!  :smt001

I get about 2.5 hrs runtime with my Hero 3 Black recording at 1080p 30 fps and no Protune on and that's with the Battery BacPac.  If slo-mo or Wifi is what you want go with the Hero 3/ Hero 3+.  If it's battery life Hero 2.

Wow... that is disappointing with the new units since run time is everything when it comes to fishing... you never know when you're going to get that bite.

I'm going to have to consider getting a hero2 then, but sure would like the wifi capabilities to see what is happening on the smart phone.  That would be nice.

Mine also came w/ the wi-fi backback, haven't tried it out yet but that might be an option for you.
