Cool crate!!
I to have been downsizing my load. I find that the more I bring the less fish I catch and I spend more time reriging. I also noticed I lose confidence in basic presentations. Just way to many options. For me confidence is key.

I love how you made the crate more accessible and easier to "reach" into. WAs it tough to cut into, even with the saw?

I am always afraid of what I could loose if I was to capsize....I keep thinking that if I bring everything with me, I could loose it really fast! But at the same time, I want options while OTW. So I try to balance some place in the middle (and tie everything down that I can, haha).

It was really easy cutting it with the sawzall but a jig saw is even easier. I took a paintpen and marked on the crate where i wanted to cut. Dont be afraid to screw up a paddle wheel on a grinder smoothes the rough stuff out pretty good and its just a free milk crate if you dont like it they make lots more  :smt002 I will try anything once so im gonna throw some stuff in 2 boxes and be otw friday and see what happens  :smt003

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Nice crate!! I overpack and everytime I cut back it I would be needing something I hadn't used in a while I would wish I brought it. It's tough to balance overpacking and staying simply!!

if it fits in a hobie shallow bucket it goes.

Now please remind me of that when we chase Albacore next summer...

My gaff lives in my bungies on top of my hatch cover and i dont use a net. I either leg scoop, tail, or just pliers flip for the release. The net has always been more of a pain than its worth and nets hurt fish more than wet hands do. As far as a light i have a custom made light/flag pole that mounts on the stern of the boat and i have led strip lights for a little cockpit lighting.

I just got a crate from work and this post is timely.  The side access is well thought out.

Dont forget that a net onboard is required for some species.

Nice job.  How do you keep all that stuff dry?  Maybe you live in central Cal but up here in Orygun we have lots of rain and heavy water.  Seems like all that nice tackle would get awfully wet sitting on edge in a crate.  My crate is 5" above the rear well floor of my X-factor and stuff still gets wet.

Nice crate! I used a crate when I first started but it just ended up being a pain for me. I have minimized everything to a medium sized Plano when I'm bottom fishing. I like having all the room in my tank well for fish. I love salmon fishing because I can pack even lighter. I can keep the essential tackle in my PFD pockets and the mesh pockets on my Revo.
That looks like a slick way to keep things organized. It's always cool to see what people put together.

I have it sitting up off the deck with some pvc and i have some water proof boxes that are that same size now. I dont put anything in there that cant get wet and its also a kayak so i expect stuff to get wet and i tried the plano box thing and hated it just having to deal with the lid and so on. This crate has proved itself as a keeper so far cause everything slips under a bungie with one hand and i dont even have to turn around anymore to grab anything i can pretty much grab it just reaching behind me. I have been using my storage on my ultra 4.3 alot more lately for the downsizing idea and its been working pretty good and its really nice having everything right in front of me.
