should we merge PIF with this?

I want to keep this separate; nothing against PIF or my brother it supports, just want to keep this one for Joel.

Hope you guys understand...

So... Is it just a group paddle, benefit raffle, and potluck... or is it a handline fishing derby too?

Late Sunday afternoon, Doug & Chris @ the Half Moon Bay Kayak Company stopped by the memorial at American Legion Hall and told me they want to work with NCKA to co-sponsor an annual PIF benefit in honor of Mooch.  They said early October is an ideal time and suggested the same hall as the venue for the post paddle activities.  I have to agree.

Is this that event?

Yes to the memorial paddle, yes to the benefit paddle & most definitely yes to the potluck... and yes to a Hand Line Derby (or MBFs)...

I have been speaking with Doug since the Mooch Strong Hookup and on Sunday before the paddle to the green can about doing something yearly... at since this was Joel's port of berth  :smt003 and what better place to do it.

I agree using the hall again would be great, but beach front property would be ideal; even if we car camp in the lot and have the Weigh-in/potluck/raffle next to HMB Kayak.... still a long way to go and I will be working hard to improve the relationship with the Harbor Master again.... it hard to have folks camp at the Hall, drive back over HMB Kayak, launch and then load up to head back over to the hall....

if not, American Legion Hall here we come.....

I will be over at Half Moon Bay regularly over the next few months... so I will continue to work with Doug on this event.....

I mainly just wanted to get the word out to save the date... I'll post more info in the upcoming weeks.....

Right on... Glen.  We are thinking the same way.  That's scary. :smt003

Yes, Luis.  Those Cuban YoYo Hand Reels are basically what we're talking about.  Most of them are plastic like these and cost under $10.  Some from the Philippines are made from wood.

I would love to find or build a lathe capable of turning some wooden ones.  Wood feels so much better, looks cooler, and floats.

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Glenn,

How large a diameter are you looking for?  I am sort of a "wood-wizard".  My home woodshop has 2 wood lathes & my other shop at home has 2 metal lathes that I sometimes turn larger pieces of wood on for more "production" type stuff.  My smaller wood lathes in my home woodshop are geared towards more hand-crafted finishes.

Let's get together & brainstorm some ideas.  I'd gladly turn some out if you get me a few dimensions of what you are looking for.

~Bill :smt006
