Rod repair question? What do I use to cut the blank?

I need to cut this rod to add a new tip. What do I cut it with to keep the rod from splintering ?

Wrap the section with one layer of masking tape. With a pen, mark the cut line on the masking tape. Use the thinnest dremel cut-off wheel and make the cut on the line.

X-acto makes a fine sawblade that works, also I have used a jewelers saw with a fine blade. +1 on the tape.

don't cut the blank.  use a ex-acto or razor to slice the threads on that guide's feet , lightly sand the tip in an away from the blank motion and apply the melted tiptop glue to the blank AND in the tiptop hole, stick together while hot and peel off the excess.  that way you don't throw away that extra inch of remaining rod for no reason.

Oh, duh, Rock's is a way better solution...

I have heated up the epoxy with a lighter as well, very little heat, to make it more flexible and easy to remove in one piece, if you cut the threads right and soften with heat it will often peel right off.

if you remove the guide, I would cut about 1/4" off the tip. When a rod breaks, there are micro fractures on both sides of the break. A clean cut tip will also make it easier to size if you are using a paper guide.
