I am down for whatever. Besides sturgeon I was thinking of a crab trap and surf perch trip in HMB.

I too was thinking about checking out the surf perch this weekend.  It's been a long while since I've done that.

Hey Bill,

I would hold off on fishing for perch this weekend.  Forecast is for 9 to 12 ft waves on Sat. at HMB and 7 to 9 ft. on Sun.  Even Monterey is 5 to 11 ft. this Sat.  Perch like calmer days.
Are you going to try for perch off your Yak or from shore?

I have done years of perch off the beaches and you can catch a few when it is ruff.  But, it is alot better when it is calm.  I use a 8 to 10 ft. Steelhead rod and 8 to 12 lb. test with 2 to 3 oz. egg sinker and rubber grub.

I can show you sometime, but not this weekend.  Unless, things (waves) calm down.  I was thinking of doing a San Luis Forebay trip again.  I know you went there last Fri. So, you may not want to do that again.

Joel mentioned something about perch inside the harbor at HMB, near the old pier I think.

Like I said I am down for whatever, the forebay is cool but I think the fishing there is really slow. Maybe after a week of warmer weather it will be better. I just need to get out and fish!  :fishing2

OK....I am up for anything.   Even, watching Joel at Mavericks...watching him talk the great whites out of that free meal (the dead whale).

One of the truck drivers at my work reported decent action at San Luis(main lake).  They trolled broken back rebels for 3 keeper sized fish, kept one for dinner and released the others.  He said later that day they ran into some shore anglers who bagged a couple fish in the twenty lb range.   The only problem is that this guy never gives up the locations and thats a huge amount of water to cover so it might be a crap shoot.  I'm still hoping to get out of HMB for another crab run.  Seems like every weekend the weather sucks then come Monday it lays down.  I may run up to HMB on Sunday anyway, just to check things out.

I have not fished the main reservoir yet. It is a ton of water to cover. Maybe Rickey will stick his head in here and give us a few suggestions.

Hey guys,
It’s a good time of year too target San Luis Res.
The area I know best is the Basalt Area you’ll come to the exit as you pass the reservoir heading towards Los Banos .
You’ll want to check out a map. The basalt area is by the dam and it’s a great area if you’ve never fished the res before. It’s not an area to take lightly, pay attention to the weather. People drowned there every year. That said, The big res is where the big boys are. and just in front of the  Romero Visitor Center across water from the Baltsalt  is where my friend Lee Hasken’s caught his 40lb striper. What ever you cast to the linesides retrieve it back real slow. Those fish arn't going to waste any energy chasing anything.Real good chance I’ll be there friday.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.
