Bass Pro Shops has good prices on Triple Threat Grubs as well. I ordered some and they arrived yesterday. Acid Rain is the pattern we were using but Kain's changed the tail in the ones I received--it is now a semi-transparent Chartreuse instead of opaque White. the color change is undoubtedly the result of detailed and prolonged scientific Crappie research I am sure  :smt002 I'll bet lot's of things will work if we can find the schools--and nothing will if we don't. See you all Sunday AM.

Great, I was going to Moss Landing and try Elkhorn Slough but this sounds like alot of fun. 510-468-1036 is my cell and it sounds like I should bring small jigs? Frankfishing

Check the thread and MolBasser's comments on jigs as well as lures. I have little spoons and plugs I might try as well just to add some spice to life. Mol knows his stuff.

I would love to go to Monterey (and will), but my wife and kids want Crappie now that they had a taste and Monterey will be around after Sept 5th when Lex shuts down. Lex is the only place in the South Bay (I consider Loch Lomond the coast) where you can eat the fish now--even Steven's Creek has warnings now. I saw warnings on Delta and Bay Stripers now also. Sheesh.

No, the color you got is right.  Same thing as you were using last time.

Hey Guys  :smt006

I just moved from TX to San Jose a couple months ago, and have been scouting areas to yak.  I found a link to this forum in the Hobie forum, and have since been reading past posts, especially where to yak fish.  I currently have a green Hobie Sport, rigged for fishing, including fishfinder.

I am disappointed to hear that Lex will be closing soon.  I thought I had finally found someplace close to yak, but guess not now.  I was thinking of going to Lex this weekend, if I can get a "kitchen pass", and just found this post on Sunday's Crappie fest.  I currently yak alone, and I would feel more comfortable joining others at first, at least until I learn the area.  Would love to join you, but may not be able to make it.

Believe it or not, I have had trouble getting a fishing license!  Everyplace listed as agents either don't sell them anymore or have run out.  I've been to several Walmarts and Big5's, but no luck yet.  I also have the problem of needing an out of state fishing license, since I haven't transferred my drivers license yet, and no-one is willing to take other proof of residency.  I am a resident and pay CA tax, I just haven't stood in line at the DMV yet.

I have so many questions to ask, I won't bother for now, since I am still reading older posts.  Since I come from TX lakes, I am not yet outfitted for open water or cold water.  Looks like I'll be buying some more accessories soon.  Thanks in advance for any assistance, and thanks to this great forum  :smt023

OK... I can't resist.  One more question.  When you say "no body contact", are SOT kayaks allowed, or only SIK's ?  I remember reading on another forum that SOT's like my Hobie are not allowed on some CA reservoirs.  Thanks!

First, get a license at Mel Cotton's Sporting Goods at Race and San Carlos in San Jose--they _always_ have them. Don't know what acceptabel proof of residence is though--never had that problem myself. Second, open deck boats are fine at all reservoirs and lakes in CA I've been to--even Loch Lomond where float tubes are _not_ allowed. The "no Body Contact" rule means part of you body cannot be immersed under normal circumstances--like swimming. If you make it, we help you out all we can. Third, as far as open wter, one of the best thigns to do, if you can afford it, is to take a class or go with a guide. Allen Bushnell is conducitng some classes this Summer and fall out of Kayak Connnection in Santa Cruz--check the web--Allen is great and will take the time to answer all your questions and he'll show you how its done.

Yeah, what Marmot said.

I'm not sure what the residency requirements are, but I have never ever had a guy ask to see my driver liscence when I bought one in all the years I have been here.

Word is that lexington will only be closed for 3 weeks for pipe work, so all is not lost.

:smt001 Woohoo!  I just ran to Big5 at Santana Row and they had forms left (only a few) and didn't ask for my driver's license.  Never had this much trouble getting a license before.  I'm new here, and didn't know what stamps to get, so I got the 2 rod and bay stamps.  Never heard of a 2 rod stamp before.  Hope I did the right thing.

Now all I need is a kitchen pass for Sun morning.  My strategy is to offer to take the kids all Sat in return for a half day off Sun morn.

Thanks for the advice on yak lessons.  I don't plan on going into the big blue until after I have had appropriate training.  I'll definitely look up Allen.

The stamps you got will serve you well.

Particularly the 2 rod stamp on Sunday if you can make it.  When drifting for crappie it is good to have as many baits out as possible (depth different).

It may get a little tight in the arm if we get a bunch of guys, but we can work it, I'm sure.

New2Yak, do you have a vhf radio?

If so, we will be on channel 69 (and marmot will have his TURNED UP this time :) )
