How to use a Safety Throw rope

Great R&D session with the throwbag at the Eel Delta.

I threw it about 40' from the seated position and about 25' from in the water.  I'll put together a video - maybe later tonight...

Met some new friends too.

Maxed out the 70' bag on this throw on the bridge prior to the water trials.

That's over 40 ft. It looks like 3 lengths or more of your kayak Eric.

Girls are cool.   

I measured the rope left in the bag to determine my lengths.  I noticed this past summer whenever the bag landed in the yard it was holding exactly the amount of rope that didn't come out during the flight.  Same held true in the water.

The in the water throw was fun - brackish water on a nice day - who needs a wetsuit?!

OK, but I need some time for that practical use part.

Hey Eric,
I have a whitewater helmet you can use, you can jump in the crashing waves among the rocks and I'll sit outside and deliver you the rope to test the practicality of a real world situation.

Oh wait, you have kids. Guess Ill have to don the gear and have you throw the rope.

Kidding aside,we could go test in different scenarios such as crashing surf, currents among rocks and such without putting ourselves in danger. I would be willing to wear my whitewater gear and see how difficult it would be for you to throw a rope to get me out of a situation, and develop protocals for doing such. Thats one of the best lessons from tackling class IV+ whitewater is to practice, practice, practice before a situation arises as to be best prepared.
