After nailing half pounders and a few adults on the klamath, I'm gonna give it a go and swing some flies upriver on the trinity if anyone is gonna be up that way. Silver Hiltons, Herniators worked last week, Assassins as well.

Good luck, wish I was going. Just picked up another fly rod yesterday, that makes 7. I did get a report from a netter, last Monday he got 24 salmon in his nets just down stream of Willow creek, the salmon are pouring in. I should be around Del Loma Sept. 27-28. Give us a report when you get back....

Last time I took the yak at low water on the river I hit a rock and got a hole, so if I were to bring any boat I would bring the 14' inflatable SOAR. I will probably stick to truck access. Anyone have advise on particular steelhead holding water?

wizz, I did not get up there last year but I usually fish Hoopa. I start from the bridge behind the grocery store and fish that whole bend 1/4-1/2 mile run down stream (very, very good water).  A small kayak will be o.k. there access is down past the grocery store on the left. I also fish the rodeo grounds in Hoopa, it's a nice run about 1/8-1/4 mile run. When you enter Hoopa there are signs to the rodeo grounds, cross the bridge to the left side of the river and go just past the rodeo ground turn off and the dirt roads will be on the right.I also hike into the gorge past Hoopa but directions would be hard it's been a few years. I usually do very well at all these spots for adult steelhead and lots of half-pounders. Don't tell anyone they are my secret spots  :smt002.

Good luck out there.  Two weeks ago, there were a good amount of fish from Helena all the way down to Cedar Flat (what I call the middle river).  Willow Creek section was pretty quiet at that time, but it's been two weeks so it could be completely different now.  Public access is more limited down there, but I'd try Kimtu Beach and Campora.  The run at Hlel-Din kinda filled in with bedload and doesn't look as good as it used to.

Middle river is what I was shooting for, theres plenty of half pounders in the klamath, and a few adults as well. Hopefully some have found their way up.

Fished Hawkins Bar to Salyer, one nice Brown, a few half pounders but not a ton of action. Talked to a guide, says most of the action is lower Trinity and Klamath. But I have heard bad reports this year regarding fishing around Hoopa, so might just wait for the fish to move up.

Thanks for the report.  It's sounding like there's a big gap in between the summer-run fish and the "fall" run right now.  Usually the two just kinda blend together.  I hear ya about Hoopa fishing: I've heard enough tales of cars broken into and rocks being thrown at anglers to deter me from fishing down there.

I might make a run to the river this upcoming weekend.  I'd like to get there just before the Chinook smolts are released from the hatchery, then I'll let it rest for a few weeks as they flush out.  Will be making a definite trip back with my brother at the end of October.

Yep, sea run brown took a herniator in green.

Thanks for the report.  I should be around lone pine hole this friday the 27th. What clayman said, last weekend before the bait robbers are released then it's a 2 to 3 week wait.        Fishing Kimtu down I believe is not allowed for recreational fishermen, was shut down last year by the Hoopa tribe.

See you out there Pete  :smt001.  Are you taking the boat?  I'll be making my usual rounds in the middle river: Helena all the way down to Cedar Flat.  And of course a stop at Lone Pine, unless you're already on it by the time I get there  :smt003.

Nice you got out, thanks for the report. I got 2 fish around Del Loma within 45 mins last Tuesday. Over the weekend before I fished around JC and only hooked one but it jumped and came off, got a nice brown up there too and a smaller one.

Haven't fished near Hoopa in a few years and I do believe it's still closed down, always looking over my shoulder down there whether it's pot farmers, crazy locals or sasquatch. Last week when I camped out around Orleans, there was either Bobo calling a squatch or a crazy meth head howling in the forest like tarzan at 3AM, LOL, good times!

Gonna try and get up there one more time before fishing between Johnson's and Klamath Glen out of a jet boat for 3 days with Flyaker, 3rd week of Oct. Try and get him and another guy their first adults on the swing.
