Just picked up my new 2014 Hobie Outback from Headwaters Adventure here in Redding.  Big thanks to Jeff (jbaker) for the run through, can't wait to get this thing out on the water to stick some fish!  Here's a few shots, I'll keep this thread active as I accessorize.  I plan to keep it pretty simple, but will be adding a Lowrance Mark 4, battery setup, gun rack, GoPro mount, downrigger, anchor trolley, turbo fins, sailing rudder...hmm, that doesn't sound so simple after all.  Let the fun begin!  :smt001

Tight lines!

Nice ride Ben, how long before it sees blood  :smt002
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

It won't be long.  With this full moon I'd love to head out to Whiskeytown to chase cats, but considering I just blew a giant wad of WAF I might need to catch up on some chores before heading out.  :smt003

Thanks guys!
Dave, I was rolling a Quest for the last few years.  I did borrow the demo Outback and Revo every once in a while from the shop.  The space and storage on the Outback is what sold me, this thing is like the Leatherman multi-tool of kayaks.  :smt003  Hopefully I can test out the 400lb weight capacity with a deer carcass in the next few weeks.  :smt002

Nice looking kayak you got there!

Other than the recessed area for a transducer, are there any other new modifications to the 2014?

"Gun rack". Hahaha, now that's something one doesn't hear too often when accessorizing a yak!  What's the big black spot in the back between the scupper holes? Transducer home?

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Yeah the Outback joins the PA (and i think the new Sport & Quest) in being Lowrance ready.  There are 3 'through-hull' fittings installed at the factory, one behind the seat and one in each gear tray.  This allows all wiring to be tucked inside nice and tidy.  The deck area is also supposed to be flatter to make it easier to stand on, and the Mirage Drive has a bigger gasket/seal area to help reduce with water splashing up through the yakgina.  I'll try to get some more pics up tomorrow.

As for the gun rack, I think I have my plan dialed in using a couple of Scotty flushmounts, with the ATV gun racks being mated to Scotty posts.  I've spent some time scouring the web, really not much out there for yak gun mounts.  Then again, half the fun is in the tinkering.  :smt001

For gun racks, check out the Railblaza G-Holds.  Their web site shows some images of a run rack on a quad made from their G-Holds.  I have a number of their items on my AI.  Overall, I am ok with their product line.  Few things I'd change but that's how it goes.
