VHF submersible radio Channels?

Based on your Safety briefing, I grabbed a VHF submersible radio.  Have a question on the channels.  I can get the weather by pushing button, that one is easy.

Appears 9/16 should be monitored at all times when you on the Ocean/Bay and it has a mode for that.

Two questions: 

Do I need to be on a certain channel to call for help if (god forbid) I ever needed it?

What channels do the fishermen talk on, commercial & sport so I can listen to wear the bite is on?

9/16 are your direct links to the coast gaurd, and most of us use 69 when we are otw, cameron

the coast guard does not monitor channel 9, only channel 16.

I took some of those big plastic 8.5 x 11 inch boaters saftey pages that you can get at boat shops (west marine?) and found the one that has the radio channels and uses for the west coast - cut the part out that had the important info and channels (about 2.5x3.5 inches?), punched a hole in it and tied it to the lanyard on my VHF radio - waterproof, small, all of the info is there for on the water. They were cheap... I figure if panic sets in during a situation that requires an emergency call - I don't have to rely on my shady memory to know who to call and what to say

Good info!  What VHF did you have?  That is our next purchase.
