the Stren original would break at I  believe 29lbs of force  but its diameter was on the thicker side, but had a low deviation. The knot strength was ok at 96%
but it is cheap so it should be a good buy

I wish they would have included P-Line CXX in their tests. I predict it would have blown the rest out of the water in terms of breaking strength vs. diameter.

20-lb P-Line CXX in moss green is all I ever use on all my saltwater gear for rockfish/lings/butts/salmon.

I am a fan of the copolymer lines. Silver Thred Excalibur is my fave. I do have to say that Berkley Big Game is no slouch. P Line has a good rep but is pricey.

Yeah... The P-line is pricy, but I feel it more than pays for itself since I lose less gear (and fish).

I'm just a standard type of fisherman. Trilene XL for fresh and Trilene Big Game for salt. Always liked the castability/limpness factor vs other types of mono.

I also tend to get a headache even looking at the current line selections out there. It's just too much and I wish stores would put some of that shelf space to better use i.e. more lure selection and better quality terminal gear (snaps etc.).

I think our sport is getting too purist. These line tests show that almost all the line we can buy (except the lowest price bulk spool stuff) is pretty damn good.

I won't be spending 40 bucks on some chemical soup tri-polymer 100 yd. spool any time soon. I would rather spend my money on a good rod/reel and some beer.

Trilene BigGame is a great mainline. Affordable and tough. Maxima UG for leaders.

Berkeley big game, izorline and ande are all that I use. Had good luck with all three.

I used to use maxima ultra green a lot when I fished the rivers but now I am mostly a saltwater angler.

WOW, complex issue here
I have settles on 30# braid as mainline except my kelp-cutter rig.
Then leaders are a rod length unless its technique specific for a long leader.
I use P-line leader for under 20#, saltwater I use 60# to 100# leader brand doesnt matter, I base it on the proximity to tall reefs.  For areas with shorter (10 foot sheer surfaces) reefs I go 60#, for areas with 20 foot or greater sheer faces I go up to 100#  This is based on experience with being rocked and the performance of various line diameters.

I hate loosing fish.

+2 on the P-Line CXX.  That's some extremely tough stuff.

With mono, I used to always go with the cheaper (but not bottom-of-the-barrel) lines such as Trilene and Stren.  But lately, I've been a big fan of Sufix Siege.  It's got all the qualities I want in a monofilament line for trout and bass fishing: high abrasion resistance, easy handling, and great castability.  Once I started using it, I doubt I'll ever go back to Trilene or Stren.  However, I still spool up my rockfish gear with Trilene Big Game every now and then.

For steelhead and salmon, I still use Maxima Ultragreen for leader material.  That stuff provides just the right amount of stiffness, strength, and low visibility for drift-fishing.  It's one of those "don't fix it if it ain't broke" kind of situations: it'd take one helluva great line to replace Maxima for my salmon/steelhead fishing.  I'm surprised it didn't rank higher on that list for breaking strength.

I tried Berkley Nanofil for the first time this year and am now a loyal follower. I use it on all my spinning gear that I throw lures with. The stuff is nowhere near perfect but the casting distance and sensitivity are unreal!

Anybody else use the stuff???

I run 30lb braid on all my freshwater stuff, and between 8 and 15 lb mono topshot or leader for everything.  I really like P-line and King line.

For salt I use 60-80lb braid for everything, with a 30# fc topshot or leader. I find that the fc stands up better to rock rubs.

I use mono 99percent of the time.unless I'm saltwater jigging or fliping/fishing in alot of cover, or i need distance from shore.other wise its mono2-6lb for trout, panfish.8-17 for blackbass-stripers.all I know is befor braid more fish was lost, now pending on how heavy your line is just button down the drag and crank.

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
