Fished today, caught a limit of rockfish.  On the way out at sunrise, the anchovies were there again, like mud.  I traveled west and saw them from the jetty to the wharf from the surf line and out to at least 40 feet.  On the outside, two Humbacks were feeding.  The place was alive.  Around 1000 hrs, the south wind and step chop came up and I headed home.

No missing the thousands Sooty Shearwaters who discovered the bait in the mentioned area.  If you know about these birds, you know they literally travel the world.  Here's a short video of my encounter when I came into the area.  Enjoy

I remember in my PB days going balls out as we approached the birds.  The driver asks, "What do I do about the birds."  I yelled to go around.  He laughed.  I looked up and the water was solid shearwaters for thousands of yards.

Prime-time bump

Worth a view.  They don't fly so well when bellies are full.

That’s a pretty cool video DC.  Its pretty neat how they all scatter all at once. That’s funny that one even hit you.  The same thing happened to me at Capitola on Sat 9/7. There was a HUGE ball of Anchovies stretching across the shoreline as far as I paddled in either direction.  At about 2:00, a frenzy started just out from the pier.  I paddled to it and was greeted by whales dolphins and shit ton of birds.  One bird even bounced off my kayak and startled me a bit.  Here are a couple screen shots from the GoPro and my point n shoot.
Sorry for the thread jack, it just seemed the most logical place to put these.

HaHa That's funny Dan. You could practice your netting/gaffing skills if you quick enough  :smt044
