I had a fun day fishing at the port of sac for the first time today. I would like to learn more about fishing this area. Who has the 411? Anything you can contribute is appreciated. Striper fishing, when, where and how? Any good spots etc. Bass fishing, any good bass fishing here? Sturgeon, Salmon, Catfish or ??? Thanks Ken

Wow! I wish I had a chance to see that yesterday. That is a great 411 on the port! Thanks.

Just curious, what is the deal on the large ships. Do they come and go on a regular basis, weekdays only, seasonal? There weren't any today and I wonder how often you might encounter one while anchored out in the channel.

I have been fishing it the better part of a year and have yet to encounter a ship underway. It is ONLY a rice port nowadays. You are more likely to have to dodge skulling boats..
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I was thinking that maybe it was seasonal rice exporting. You're right about the skulling boats. I had to weave through a couple sets of them and then was getting nervous as the coach in the little power boat was headed right at me. She said she couldn't see me because of the glare from the sun.

We moved a ship up the Sacramento channel yesterday, Pier 5, will sit there for a while. Probably came through a couple hours after everyone was off the water.

My understanding is it is only the second ship to that dock in 6 years, Stockton is the busier port.

Damn, actually that is a crying shame, a lot of prosperity, jobs, business comes from a well managed port, and that one is literally only three blocks away from the freeway. I guess every time they talk about deepening the channel it isn't sexy enough for the voters to give it budget... :smt010
