I fished down in  Goleta  last Sunday.   Early on that morning I caught a nice halibut.   By noon it was hot with little wind movement ,  the heat from the sun was warming up my fresh fish.  :smt012   I don't much like hanging them over the side due to furbaggers looking for a free meal.  So with great reluctance, I finally came in earlier than necessary.
I have one of those insulated bags that you can strap on the bow, but it creates a lot of drag when the wind is blowing.  It's also bulky and easy to snag a hook.
My solution for next time is cheap and easy to make.    I used that bubble wrap that Hobie kayaks are shipped in.  This stuff is TUFF  material !     I doubled up two layers with some packaging (foam wrap) material in between.   Then using tape, I created a  " bag "  that can be stuffed in the bow.       The second photo shows a " flap"  style cover that helps to further insulate.      I'm guessing as a side benefit  there's quite a bit of floatation added in.
Next time I'll toss in a block of ice  before heading out. Maybe I'll get that WSB that got away!
