The Boat Camp is on the north side of Emerald Bay, about 1/2 mile east of Fannette Island located in the bay on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, at the site of the old Emerald Bay Resort.

The Boat in - water front - camp site - has 10 sites. I believe it's $15.00 a night.
For reservations: call 1800.444.7275

The problem will be finding a place to leave your vehicle for the number of days your camping. The Ranger I spoke to suggested leaving your vehicle in Meeks Bay - a bout 4 miles away from the Emerald Boat in campground. BUT -you have to make arrangements with Meeks Bay people about that. For the Boaters, they have it easy and can simply leave their vehicles and trailers at the respective launch ramps - all over Tahoe.

Does anyone know of place where we can leave our vehicles for a few days  - preferably next to the water for an easy put in?

Zilla? Tote? Any advise?

I have checked out those sites and they did not look very appealing. You get a LOT of foot traffic through there from the tourists who walk down the trail from the top and then decide to go exploring. Obviously you also get all the boaters who are camping and a TON of boat traffic in and out of Emerald bay. I hope you are planning a weekday trip.
I do not know of anywhere close to there you could leave your vehicles for an extended period. If you were close to a casino you could always leave them in the parking lot indefinitely.
When ya headed up?

Echo Lake can have some gnarly winds kick up as well. Always be prepared for wind in the upper elevation lakes. The worst conditions I have EVER paddled in has still been one time at Lake Tahoe. Went from glass to gale force winds in about 15 minutes. Made SPB look like a kiddie pool.

DL Bliss State Park is another option.  It's a huge campground with a lot of sites right near the water.  There is also a group camp down near the water.  It has a great beach and nice cove, and is probably a 1-2 mile paddle (or less) to Emerald Bay.

Sky~
You probably didn't get poison oak because it probably was not poison oak. It is rare for that plant to grow above the 4000 foot elevation.
Echo is a little over 7000' feet in elevation.
I probably would have ran from the beast too. I have in the past even though I know it is to no avail if that bear wants you. They can out run, out climb and out swim any of us. When startled they will run just like any of us. I have heard the "grunt" and in my opinion the best thing to do is make a lot of noise.

Bringin this back from the dead. saw the campground last week while on a guided trip of tahoe.  they are closed for now to put in handicap accessible boat docks.

doable paddle if you can find a place to park a car. coming all the way across from south lake tahoe seems pretty far.  d.l. bliss seems like it has good access, and meeks bay too. i am really wanting to do a trip up to tahoe next year for macks in either the spring or fall so there are not as many loonies around on the water.

For Macks I would launch by Cave Rock on the Nevada side.  I have never caught a mack near Emerald bay, they are there, just not for me.  But I have caught a lot at about the 140' depth over near Cave Rock.  Trolling CD5 or so Rapalas.  Was in the boat and not a yak, but jigging should be good there also.  Also, if you camp in the park at South Shore, they will issue a free pass for the ramp near them.

Maybe try Camp Richardson. It is fairly close to Emerald Bay,they have campsites and a launch ramp. If you go you have to try the Rumrunner at the bar.ummmm ummmm good
