Hey y'all, the wife wants to spend the weekend in the city. Any ideas of fun (not to touristy) stuff to do during the day?

If you've never ridden a bike around the wharf it's pretty cool. I started at AT&T park and rode all the way to the golden gate. There are things that you can see and stop by along the piers and windsurfers at gg park. Before the gg is ghiradelli factory if your into choclate. You can bring some food and find some grass to chill.

Their farmers market at the ferry building has yummy food. I'm not sure what day it is though.

CA Academy of Sciences?

Picnic at Dolores park?

I'm sure someone who lives in the city will have more to share.

My wife and I like to BART in to the Powell street station and walk up Stockton street into the real china town. Lots of great markets to check out, dim sum bars ( the best is called Good Mong Kok, u will notice the long line), and fantastic restaurants like Yuet Lee. After Chinatown we like to walk into north beach via Columbus ave. and go to Mara's cafe for coffee/dessert, or go to molinari's deli for a great Italian sandwich, or just sit and hang out in the park by the cathedral

there's tons of free/cheap stuff to see and do in SF. right now there are lots of large sculptures (think A. Calder) are installed right now at Chrissy Field. Also a tour around the lagoon and restored wetlands there makes for a nice walk.

You can hike along the lands end nature trails -- they offers some amazing views of the gg gate and the bridge. check out a museum (the DeYoung does a Friday evening happy hour), catch some music, get a drink at top of the mark around sunset -- you'll score points with that one.

as someone else mention, the ferry building farmers market is great - it's on saturday mornings.

if the giants are playing at home you can watch for free from outside the park along McCovey Cove. ;

and by all means eat your way around the city - there is a ton of great food here. Yelp is a great resource for finding a place/style etc.

cheers

Off the Grid is great and happens every Friday. It is at Fort Mason from 5-10pm.  Tons of food trucks.

What does she enjoy? Art, theater, outdoors, shopping? Lots to do, but need to narrow it down.

The new explotartorium is killer...check and see if Autodesk next door
has anything going on at their maker office...or at 1 market, pretty cool gallery of stuff that their customers build...you'll recognize loads of it.

Go to China town at like 5am and watch all the live stuff get delivered.

A bike ride thru the park and across the Golden Gate Bridge, China Town on a friday or weekend evening, A show at one of the down town theaters, I've lived in the area for almost 60 years and I still enjoy hanging on a cable car.
