I was salmon fishing today in my kayak in the salt. Where I was fishing had a huge amount of bait with lots of birds working. I have to admit it's pretty exciting in a kayak.

Along came a school of porpoises. They came pretty close to where I was and began to mill around. Usually they just keep on going but not this time. Soon I had them all around me breaching in all directions. Then one surfaced within about 20 feet of my yak. The amazing thing was that right along side the porpoise was about a 25 lb. salmon. The salmon appeared to mirror the porpoise! My initial thought was a baby porpoise, but indeed it was a salmon. No doubt in my mind.

I had no idea they associated with each other. In fact I always figured they might be enemies.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I think you see more from a kayak than a PB.

They probably use the same " school and charge" tactics. I could see them working together when the bait gets balled up real tight and they blast through it. That would be cool to see.

Sounds way cool! And yeah, I see much more when on the yak as opposed to my boat.

That sounds awesome Brah! I see a lot more wildlife from a kayak than I do even hiking. Seems like if it doesn't have a motor and doesn't look like a scarecrow (or human) the animals seem more at ease and natural.

Sometimes I wonder if I took up kayak fishing for the sightseeing....... then I set the hook on a big one!
