Thank you for the update and report on the situation. RIP to the diver and condolences to the family.

PLEASE EVERYONE BECAREFUL OUT THERE! I know we are all here to have fun but please be alert. I have been doing this sport longer than any of you NCKA brothers. 20 years kayakfishing up and down the California coast and I have seen it all from good to bad to tragic. I will be in lifeguard mode this weekend. If any one needs assistance or needs me to tow them in I WILL ASSIST YOU AND TOW YOUR ASSES IN! My radio will be on!

hahahah I started diving off a sit on top in 1974 and started fishing a lot in 1978. Blown off my board many times. Got back on and kept going. You gotta be safe but when your number is up.................... its up.

Craig

Sad but true. When it's your time it's your time. On a weekend like this though. We will be surrounded by brother who watch each others backs. Consider us all fortunate NCKAers.

Looking forward to seeing your old grouchy butt Craig.

Okay Craig maybe not as long as you have been doing it. You do have like 80 years on me old man.  :smt005

The one day I should have brought the camera with me I didn't.
My vessel got boarded today....by what I think was a cormorant.
Black Sea bird, long hooked beak, looks like a goose when it flies.
It tried to jump on the front three times and slidoff each time. Finally jumped onto my lap. I tried to pet it and it nipped at me twice. The third time it let me pet it. Very cool as it hung around for quite a bit.
I tried giving it a herring but wouldn't take it. That worried me. Maybe it just needed to get out of the water ASAP. Yikes.
After a little while longer he hopped back in the water and went on his way.
Two chinas, two Lings, one legal. That was it for me.
The fishing is majorly slow. Frozen molasses is faster than the fishing here.
I will dive tomorrow. Report to follow.
Coroners tape on the vehicle in the campground. Might not be moved by the weekend

A bit of an update from my friends son;  My friend's son, Jordan, camped right next to the guy and talked regularly to him each day from when Jordan arrived on Tuesday until Saturday when the guy didn't come back.  Jordan called the manager at Albion today who told him that they found the guy in his kayak and that it looked like he had a heart attack.  Jordan said he thought the guy was about 60 or 61 years old.  The guy wasn't with his wife, he was alone.  The guy's SISTER came by to check on him when he didn't come home Saturday and notified authorities.  Jordan talked to the sister a bit.  When Jordan left on Sunday, he left a note on the guy's windshield giving his phone # to call and let him know he was o.k.
I forgot to ask if Jordan had his name.

I'll be up Wednesday afternoon too.

The man found drowned off Albion yesterday was identified as Daniel Joseph Barreto, a 62 year-old male, from Sparks, Nevada.

and yes, reeeeal slow bite today. came in with some nice blacks and blues, otherwise released a handful of dink lings and plenty of gophers and chinas. my buddy got a 26" ling. been a while since a fish that small took the day. heres hoping it picks up.

8/6/13 beautiful day on the water! Flat seas and very little wind. I actual got hot out there when the sun peeked out for a moment around 1:00 pm. On the water at 10:15 am, off around 2:15pm. Caught 24" ling and a 14" China. First blood on my new Eddyline! I'll try to post some pics.
