one member that I was fishing with was throwing a white and green swimbait and he caught a huge cabby at hmb.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

+1 on testing

After seeing Rider hooking that massive ling within a minute of using one of the lures you made I would love to test one.

cabs target crabs, so I would say red or brown or a combo of both.

I've also caught cabs on green or white or halloween colors, but when I target them I have always used red.

I think a small 3-4 inch dungee looking rubber crab, orangey brown on top and white-pinkish underside. if it had swimming legs I think it would be deadly

Thanks everyone :smt006

You guys rock! I had a few of the colors you mentioned in mind but you definitely added some new ones. I'll give out a lil hint... Think 8 inch-ish hula grub in the colors you mentioned, on a 3,4 or 5oz. red, orange, white or black football jighead. Packaged in shrimp oil too!

Anyhow, working on them now and hope to be done before the closure.
P.s. working on a soft plastic 4 inch crab jig with soft, flat undersided legs that should wriggle like crazy. The color? lil dungee! lol

Thanks again guys!

Jesse

The only 4 cabs I've caught this year were all on 6.5" Halloween with a white head. I have used 10 different colors and those were the only cabs.

My PB cab (25.5", 12 lbs) was on a 5" rootbeer colored B2 squid.

I'm not sure if I've necessarily nailed down a pattern when it comes to cabezon, but I often get them using earth-tone plastics.  Stuff like green watermelon, watermelon+red flake, rootbeer, etc.  It makes sense since they mostly are eating little drab-colored bottom critters anyway.  They seem like they're opportunists, as in "if anything smaller than me falls into my little hole here, I'm gonna eat it."

Although I haven't tried it, I bet a crab-imitating plastic would work quite nicely  :smt003.

+1

From seeing a bunch of them diving and cutting open a bunch of their bellies. I have found crabs, abalone, octopus...the last one I shot had 4 small octopi and a small kelp crab in it's belly. Some are stuffed full of crabs or whole abalone.

I have caught them on the drak colors, but also on big fat white/glow curly tailed grubs...

I think if you put it in front of its face and it's hungry it will bite it.   :smt003

Some great ideas on here.  I'm a believer in 'match the hatch', so the idea of a 6" Hula Grub/Spider Jig style in a brown/red would be killer!

Well, since we're talking lure shapes now, my biggest and probably the most cabs have come on a smaller scampi (5" maybe) with a matching skirt.  I long since ran out of these skirts (well, at least in the colors I like to use) and haven't been able to find replacements.  That's something that would be nice to see ... a line of add on skirts to dress up plastics.  The "bass skirts" you see today are too "bushy" for my liking.  The ones I had seemed to just be a flat plastics with about 16 legs radiating maybe 1.5" out, pretty sparse, but enough to give a little bulk.
