i took a ray home and winged it and prepared it according to some Thai recipe and it was the worst thing i have ever had in my life. the meat is stringy and tough and has a strange flavor to it. i would never eat it again unless i was in a survival situation... but that is just me. someone out there might think it is the best thing ever...

I remember my step--dad caught one when I was a kid. It wasn't very good and ended up getting thrown away. I have never fished for them since.

I've never eaten ray, but I have eaten a few big skates.  The meat comes off in ribbons moreso than fillets.  If you treat it like a shark (bleed it, chill it, trim off the dark red meat), it's actually pretty damn good.  Skate reminds me of scallops.
