Hi Guys, from San Diego.  I'm planning to be at Ocean Cove July 30-Aug 2.  My question to anyone is, with the weather prediction of high winds and swells declared on NOAA, will getting out of the cove to the fishing grounds be a issue?  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks Much...

Hey Roger,  Swellinfo is predicting totally fishable seas:

I was planning on fishing somewhere in that area on Tuesday. Where exactly depends on what's happening with the salmon bite.  If you want company lemme know and we can hookup.

Don't plan on fishing inside the cove. Very limited space and it's not very deep. You definitely want to fish outside. The cove is a good place to launch; that's about it.
I've had bad wx reports and headed up and it was glass.
If the report determines it's fishable then go for it.
It's a long drive from SD.

Ocean Cove is pretty protected. You should be able to round up some rockfish perhaps even some big lings without straying out of the cove.

Personally, I don't pay much attention to forecasts that are a week away. There is a link at the bottom of my signature that gives Timbercove weather every three hours. Pretty dependable.

There is a large music festival going on that weekend at Ocean Cove. Here is a link:

You should be fine at Ocean Cove.  File a float plan with somebody onshore before you run.  I just spoke to my buddy fishing commercially and the best bite for him has been from 4-7pm the past few days.  Makes sense since the early bite for me and my buddies SUCKED this week.  Oh yeah, try tighter in, 12-15 fathoms over the rockpiles and keep that presentation real close to the bottom.  Sorry I'll miss you, I have a road trip this week so the salmon should be jumping in the boats!

LOL! totally, totally true. What's up with that anyway ?!?!?

Btw, the stick boats were all over Fort Ross today. Which is a bit south of OC.
