On my buddy's boat...So...we looked outside for Tuna, but looked nasty.

Ran up to Chimney rock area- called out for NorcAl on 69, but nobody home. put lines in about 1.5 miles from bouy- hooked up within 5 minutes. 8-10 #er in the box. Then proceeded to pick through silvers, with one about every 15 minutes or so...slowly trolled out in fairly ugly windwaves.  Worked a small area of bait- for 5 more to about 20#s.
Then the lull.

Finally, on the long slow troll downhill we put two more nice kings in the box.

Nearly all the fish came on Apex-- either WMA, or this strange "Disco" color (gold, with a blue stripe)

water temp was 53-54 at Pt reyes, nearly 60 at Dux

Aww, wish I wouldn't have read that. I went to SF on Sunday and decided to checkout Chimney Rock on my way home. I had the kayak and all my fishing gear with me but since it was 5:30pm I decided not to launch and just check out the access to the water.   I even brought a WMA with me. :smt013

Sharkbait... if it'll make you feel any better, Insane Duane and I made the long drive to Chimney Rock on Sunday morning, but we couldn't launch due to all of the new construction going on at the Coast Guard boat launch.  Signs prohibiting vehicle and pedestrian traffic were everywhere.  Even the parking lot was roped off.  It was obvious we weren't welcome.

I just discovered this closure notice for Chimney Rock.  I wished I knew about it before making the drive there. :smt012

I can't believe that i got the one little slot of time when the fish were in and you could still launch there...

AHA!!!

I just looked at the link-- you could park earlier, and walk down to the OTHER launch (the private dock). you'd need a cart- and it would be a walk (from the sunset beach overlook).

So- you'd park at the sunset beach overlook, load up your cart. walk down to the main closed parking area hang a LEFT when you hit the junction (thereby avoiding the closed area), go over/through the gate- and then launch from the beach to the right of the dock.
I'd guess its a third or half mile cart walk then an extra 50 yd paddle.

So- if the bite stays hot that might be the ticket-- more work certainly, but at least its possible
