Be sure to post up a report (good or bad). Thanks!

Hey Jude

Sorry couldn't resist.  :smt044 Bodega Head has a seal haul out on the south end and is a known sharky area and forms the northern most point of the red triangle. All that said there hasn't been attack there in several years so I am not concerned. I will be running the shark shield in the haul out area. We will stay in a close grouping on the paddle out but mainly for safety from the hundreds of boats.  :smt005 If I thought there was a significant risk i wouldn't fish there.

I will be launching around 530 AM on Thursday from Doran beach near the jetty. Here is the forecast:

Thursday: W wind around 6 kt. Patchy fog before 11am. Mixed swell...WNW 4 ft and SW 1 to 2 ft becoming WSW. Wind waves around 1 ft.

I will be trolling for salmon but may try some mooching if there is bait.

Company welcome!  :smt006

I may check out the bell buoy area on Saturday. If there's bait, I'll try mooching a chovie under and around the edges.

Is mooching allowed in this area?  Someone mentioned that its an SMCA and only trolling was allowed.  I'm guessing thats not true then?  Sorry if I'm blurting out wrong info.

You CANNOT mooch near the whistle buoy, which is where most of the action is taking place.

You CAN mooch near the bell buoy, which is outside the protected area. There are reports of fish in this area, too, but not as many.

You CANNOT fish north of the 18' N line. This area is closed to all fishing.

Rectangular pink shape, NO FISHING

Triangle shape, TROLLING ONLY

Alex

I know about the SMR and have Garmin G2 Blue Chart which has the SMR boundaries. Thanks for mentioning though.

I assumed you were aware, just answering SmokeOnTheWater.

Cheers.
