I am making my first kayak trip to the Monterey/Carmel area and am wondering where you launch from to get to Stillwater Cove.  I have read that you can launch from the actual cove, but that parking can be a major issue.  Is this the case?  Should I try and launch from another location North or South and paddle in?  Thanks for any tips!

You can unload right next to the beach, then just move your car back to the parking spots by the hedgerows, walk back to beach and paddle out.

When done and ready to leave, bring car over and load up and take off.

No problem at all.

If by chance the hedgerow spots are full, there is extra parking 1/4 mile back up the road by the spa and tennis courts.

You can see the overflow parking if the hedgerow parking is full here:

There is also a path from the parking by the tennis courts straight back to the road...

But since you can unload and load right next to the pier the walk is really no big deal.

99% of the time you can park right by the hedgerows.

You can also save yourself the entrance gate fee if you launch off the south side of Carmel beach, down the stairs and paddle over to Stillwater.A little more work but FREE. Plus if you want, you can fish off Carmel Point easily,it is not as protected as Stillwater but there are lots of good fishing spots in and around the kelp beds.Just a tip...

For sure.

We launched there yesterday and dove from south of butterfly house all the way up to Arrowhead point and back.   :smt003
