Check some of the shops. I got all my gear from headwaters in lodi. Nice guys down there and the will give ncka members a decent break on the price. Specially if they are overstocked. Otherwise check out sports chalet today the 4th of july. They have some pretty huge sales today.

Get a light one. The one of mine you used was a fairly light one. Imagine it being heavier than that. Stay away from aluminum shafts. They tend to be the heaviest. A decent fiberglass one should do the trick. AT paddles, Werner, Bending Branches. There are other too that are good.

I got a Carlisle Expedition Angler paddle used for only 4 days this past week on a media trip.  MSRP $160.  Will sell for $120.

I think you will also want to make sure it is a "high angle" paddle for that kayak. Some paddles that say they are fiberglass are actually nylon with fiberglass reinforcement. A little bit heavier than true fiberglass. Most manufacturers offer many different constructions, therefore different pricing for what sounds like the same material but isn't. I know, confusing. It is just a price point and material thing.

+1, although 240 and high angle are kind of counter-intuitive, unless you're on one of the "raised seating" platforms.

The Carlisle Expedition Angler paddle I posted is full fiberglass, although a little on the heavy side for a full fiberglass, but also on the lower end cost wise.  Tradeoffs ...

He is on a Big Tuna. That paddle in the pictures I just looked at look closer to a high angle than low. Good deal on it at that price.

Thanks Guys. I didn't realize there was a difference between high angle and low angle. I did get two Bending Branches basic aluminum shaft paddles thrown in with my purchase. It was great that I got those, but after using the one you lent me Rob, I am definitely spoiled and could immediately tell the difference!
I could have gotten a great deal on the Bending Branches Angler Pro, but just could not bring myself to spend that kind of money out the gate, even with a generous discounted offer.

Thanks for the offer Allen, Just confirming it is a 240cm? One of the paddles I was given was a 230 (Dan of Headwaters was out of 240s) and I know for a fact now that anything less than a 240 won't cut it on the Big Tuna!!

Check REI online. Sometimes they have great deals
Got my carbon Aqua Bound Paddle there. I really like it. Aqua Bound seems to have very good prices for carbon. I went  high angle (Manta Ray), but lately I'm thinking about going with the lower angle Stingray. as the stroke seems to conserve energy Like the twist lock ferrules. Button locks types on two piece paddles always seem to jam up with sand

Yes, it is a 240.  It worked well on the Old Town Predator at 34" wide.  I have 2 of these paddles.  Well, the other is not the Angler version.  The only difference is the color, green for the angler version and yellow for the non-angler.  I'm keeping the yellow one for myself to use on the Predator that followed me home.   :smt002

I've been a fan of the Carlisle fiberglass paddles for awhile now.  They used to carry the Enchantments which got replaced by the Expeditions.  Good value fiberglass paddles!

Well, you're in Roseville and I'm in San Jose, so it may be difficult to meet.  Although I think I may be fishing with someone from out your way this weekend in Santa Cruz.  I could send it home with him, and you can pick it up to demo and/or buy.

Oh Yeah, That Is Quite A Trek. If You Get It To Your Buddy, I Am Sure Once I See It I Will Buy It And I Can Give Him The Money Or We Can Figure Something Else Out.
