Welcome Kara. Catfish-wise, I'd recommend Lake Del Valle. Decent fishing and if you have kids a picnic and swimming area. Down side is, it has mussel inspection so make sure your yak is bone dry.
Saltwater-wise, there's a lot good spot along the coast. Keep an eye for hookups. Everyone's welcoming and helpful. There's some of us from the peninsula area who hits SMC (HMB to pigeon point) on a regular basis. Fishing is good and close to home.
