Bring a jug of fresh water and immediately rinse off your reels when you get off the water.

Don't forget to cut off a piece of kelp before you get too far out to use as a piss tube!

The conditions aren't great but doable. Launch early and head north. When the fan turns on kelp tie. Stay clear of any boiler rocks. Catch some fish and post it up. If you get there and it looks gnarly and a bunch of kayakers are staring at the surf and one says "well if we timed it right..." get back in the car and head down to Jenner for some breakfast.  :smt005

Well, got home a little earlier than I had planned. Broke out in some kind of mean rash and wasnt feeling it. Went out Saturday, swell felt like they were 6 ft. People on shore were thought I was crazy. They said id completely disappear with the swell behind me. That said the waters were  a little rough to take pictures in my catches. Didnt catch anything to brag about, just got my fill of blacks. Seemed like the majority of the fish were hiding in the kelp, and all took big hammers, nothing else. I'm satisfied for my first trip out.

Sounds like a good trip to me. Caught some fish, didn't have a yard sale. What more do you want? Believe me, lings are overrated. Yeah they can pull some drag but after catching a few, there are more worthy species, IMHO. WTG!!!

This is motivation for my first salt trip coming up in 2 weekends with RockFish and Rider up at Timber Cove and Anchor Bay. nice little 3 day trip set up. i hope i can have a bit of success like you. How was the feeling of being out in that big water for the first time? I would like to know more about how it felt being out there instead of the actual fishing. i am just leary for my first time and how i am going to handle all the water being around me and the conditions n what not...
i know me getting comfortable will come with time but i just want to hear as much as possible from a first timer as i can before heading out. i can listen to these seasoned guys all day but they are used to being out there and wont make a big deal out of anything that isnt that crazy gnarly. but i want to hear it from a nooblette like myself lol.
