I like the determination! But... Do I even have to say it?

You are missing the two MOST IMPORTANT pieces of safety equipment of all: Compass and GPS!!! The fog can (and will) roll in QUICK, and it is very disorienting for even the most experienced paddler.

A healthy dose of determination is great, but make sure you aren't in over your head (pun intended)...

Man, I'm glad all you guys weren't around to try to pursuade me from going out in the ocean for my first time.

Before I bought my 1st kayak (OK Caper) I had paddled a kayak ONE time in Hawaii.

I bought my yak on Thursday - took it to Spring Lake after work. On Friday I took it up to Lake Sonoma for a few hours.

On Saturday Bob and I launched into 8' West swells at Fort Ross.

If you know yourself and know your limits and know what you're capable of then get out there and go for it.

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Right on man! As long as you are not retarded and prepare for the worst, you will be fine. I Just know when to "not go", turn around and go home. TC and OC are easy and protected.

Most important GPS? Well I was missing that for many years I guess that is why I feel lost all the time.  :smt005 Sounds like you are all set for the big blue for sure. Have fun and maybe take the kayak with only a wetsuit and practice getting back off and on a few times. Hell just get a mask and snorkel and look for a couple of abs if the conditions are flat!.Wish I could make it up still might run up but not sure.
