I've been prepping for our annual trip to Lake Tahoe, I think this will be year number 4 or 5.

I'll likely spend a day with Captain Bob, aside from never having let me down on catching fish he's a pretty cool person to chat it up with.

I'd also like to spend a day on the kayak fishing for Mac's on my own.  So I'm reading up on it a bit to prepare.  Trolling for them seems to be the way to go but a few articles also mention jigging for them.

They mention using a Rapala Jigging RAP, they call it a Vertical Rappala.   I think they are these http://www.marinegeneral.com/productcatalog.asp?parentid=10946&directoryid=11728 but I don't see anything over 7/8 oz.

Have any of you jigged for Mac's before?  Did you use one of these Rappala's?  Did you have any success?

I'm not sure yet, but probably not until mid July.

We usually stay in North Tahoe and spend a day fishing, a day biking/swimming, a day floating down the river, and the last day or two just hanging out.

i dont jig anything less than 2oz (mostly 3oz) in tahoe, and i dont fish any shallower than 150ft.  i normally jig 220' off meeks bay.  i always tip with minnows caught in tahoe.

my favorite jigs are the pline minnows, primarily because they meet my favorite criteria: they're cheap

do pretty well, but the smaller fish dont fight worth sh*t.

my favorite spot north tahoe is off sand harbor.  you'll need a fish finder and a contour map. look for humps in deep water and you'll find macks on top and around the tops.

I've caught macks jigging in 60FOW just south of DL Bliss.
Anything with a little weight and shine will work.
Minnow tipped doesn't hurt either.

The standard is  a 2-4 oz crippled herring or hopkins spoon. If you have 2-4 oz metal rockfishing jigs like megabait, just use those. Mackinaw like lingcod are stupid and will hit anything you drop in front of them.
