They are goofy looking critters aren't they.

PK, you best eat those guys raw. Best way I have eaten them by far. If you don't want em, give me to me and they will be rapidly consumed.   :smt003

I forgot to mention ... I knew this was going to be a good trip before we even left the dock.  As we were on the boat waiting around to leave the dock, I pulled out a rod and started casting a fluke, bouncing it back along the bottom.  Others were chuckling at me, but hell, I'm on a boat, I'm going fishing.  Made believers out of them when I hooked up a short butt.  Hell yeah!

I guess I also forgot about reporting Friday's journey to the place called La Jolla.  Bushy and I met up with fishkraft, Gary, Raydon, and baitman at the launch.  It was a humbling experience.  Bait was easy to make just past the closure buoys.  A mix of greenbacks, spanish, and large dines.  Worked our way out to the spot.  The area was loaded with bait (spanish), but no one was seeing any yellowtail.  Bushy had a good take, but no love on the hookset.  I was harassed by the sea lions.  Slowly one by one the PB's started leaving as well as the few kayaks that were out there.  I saw some boils in close to the kelp, and decided WTF, nothing else is going on.  Got to the area for nothing.  I convinced myself they were calicos, too small to take the large macks we were offereing.  Fishkraft decided to go in and gives me remaining bait as I was on my last mack.  No sooner did he leave and I hooked up on a runner.  It made a beeline to the kelp and popped off in 30 seconds.   :smt009  While I was reeling on my line, my other rod goes off, right into the kelp.   :smt010  Tried to work it free, but no bueno.  Got my hook back, pinned a bait back on it and sent it back down.  Seconds later and it was on a run.  Fuck!  Kelped again.   :smt010  I could feel the fish still on, so spent some time trying to work it free.  Eventually, I stopped feeling the fish and ended up breaking off the line.   :smt010  :smt010  :smt010

The best part of the day was my surf in.  I caught a nice wave and started picking up speed.  Perhaps a little too much speed as my bow started perling.  Dug the brace in and side surfed the rest of the way in.  Now that was fun!

Paul Lebowitz met us at the beach and we enjoyed a nice lunch and got some intel on how to fish the Island.  Nice to see you Paul.  Always a pleasure and thanks for lunch!   :smt006

La Jolla ... I will be back for revenge.

Got back Friday evening. Turned the trip into a great family vacation. Have some great pics of the loading and OTW. Have some issues with this computer for photo editing. Will post pics Monday.
It was really awesome to have the time to expand friendships with NCKA brothers
Saw some yak loaded cars in the lot upon arrival, but was the first to unload and I was the last to leave. Thanks to the brothers who kept me company as I waited for wifey to arrive.  It was good that I was last to leave since a couple brothers left gear behind. Our crew and all the people at Fisherman's Landing & Tackle were really cool. The Fishermans Landing people were proactive and had already secured the left behind gear. I just had to ask the right people for Morgan and Sin Coast's stuff. Guess they are used to tired fishermen leaving stuff behind. Fishing was a bit slow for me, but I did manage a couple hog Calicos. Thought I had Bushy beat in the hog Calico department, but his bigem turned out to be a pound or so ahead of mine.
Interested in another trip . Three days OTW would be great. I think the price of a 7 day etc might be  a bit much for the average NCKAer. Would be great to have a family subgroup.  Family that can hang together while we fish  and then stay after to enjoy all SD has to offer, My folk came down and saw the Zoo Safari Park while I was out and we saw the SD Zoo and Sea World twice after the trip. Didn't even make it to th Beach. That's why I think a family add on would be great. It's such a long 9.5  - 10 hour drive and the extra time made it more enjoyable.  A family option would definitely get us some WAF points.

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.
