does anyone know what the weather forecast is supposed to be like out that way for that weekend because if i do end up getting a pass from the wife it will be my first time out on the salt and i dont want to get out there driving all the way from elk grove and i wouldnt feel comfortable being out in the chop or something sketchy my first time...

so with that short report being said how do you think that a newbie would fare? I have done the roll over training and can self rescue but as far as the chop and  swell and everything would it be pretty doable for a first timer? I am really really wanting to head out  but i want to(ideally) baby step into it instead of just leaping right into some crappy situation that i would either have to bail on right when i got there (3 hours later) or suck it up and have a miserable time trying to learn as i go and fight back against the elements...

It will be a fast drift and if you keep getting snagged then you will definitely not be having fun and it would tarnish your image of what rockfishing really can be like.

Unless you have a Hobie! Then the speed of the drift is up to you ;)

fast drift meaning (still learning terminology) that you will literally be getting moved around pretty quickly because of the current huh. how many people does it seem are going to this hook-up, in all?

lets put it this way, i live a lot closer to the coast, so i would drive out and look, but most likely i would just end up hanging out in camp having beers, food and laughs with a bunch of muggles, anything over 10knts is usually a no go for me, the swell isnt that bad but with the mixed and the wind waves, its going to be a washing machine, but noaa can be wrong, and it could totally flatten out, but you never know till you look, sorry thats all i can say, i would suggest hanging out closer to home and getting to know your boat better, kayaker first, fisherman second, cameron
