They look intriguing on the commercials on the TV fishing shows.  But they sure are expensive.  Dale Hardware Store here in Fremont has a big selection.  Someday I'd like to own one.

The cheapest one they sell holds a sixer and about 3 ice cubes, for 300. I guess them 3 cubes last a week.
Too rich for my blood, my ice is free and I roll with the need of more room than a sixer and my beer still stays cold!

Yeah they are cool but they seem like total overkill. I guess if you are not going to be near ice for a week I get it. They strike me as a total "look what I got" item. My big Igloo did great at GS7 for 4 days with two blocks of ice and one 20lb back. And we were in and out of it 50 times a day.

I saw a demo recently of the top ten coolers, or something of that sort. Here is the link.  If you are going to shell out some money for a good new cooler, I think the Coleman Extreme was the best value.

Got a yeti from the boss when I needed another cooler for my events. Firstntime I used itnwas at GS6 and it was impressive.  I put a 20 lb bag of ice in the yeti and the same in my igloo. When we unloaded the vehicle at the tides, all the ice in the igloo was gone but the yeti still had 90% ice remaning. We stayed for 5 days and had to get a bag every other day for the igloo and only once for the yeti when traveling home. If you are going tonuse your cooler for multi day trips, the yeti will pay for it's self in a short time. Especially when most areas out of the city charge $10.00 for a 20 lb bag. We saved almost $50.00 at GS6 alone vs the igloo and have since parted with the other so called 5 day coolers. It might be a lot to shell out initially,  but will actually save you a lot of money over it's life ( and it's built to last )

And if you put 2-3lb.of dry ice with the ice you won't have to buy any ice. Yes, the Yeti is dry ice compatible.!!
Yeti coolers are the BEST bar none.
Thanks Eric...good stuff

I've always wanted one of the small lunch box sized yeti's expensive yes but when your working in the middle of nowhere and it's a 105 it sure would be nice to have cold drinks, I haven't found a small cooler that can keep things cold in extreme conditions like a yeti, plus there bear proof something you might need at shelter cove lol.

I didn't have the same experience with the Coleman Extreme.  My typical use is putting in only 1 bag of ice with my Rock fish catch inside.  I only keep enough for a family of 3 can eat in less than a week and I don't to freeze my catch. About half the ice is melted in less than 24 hours.

They're pretty big with the east coast and gulf anglers that are offshore for 12-14 hours or pulling overnighters in tropical heat.  With fuel bills and the expenses of running offshore, you need to have a quality cooler to make sure the fish doesn't spoil.

A while back there was a 50 page thread on The hull truth about yeti.  Apparently they bought out another line of coolers that were of sub par construction.  Guy buys one and the lid warps to the point it is unusable, after some research he finds out its a wide spread problem. He calls yeti to warranty, they tell him to pound sand.  $700 cooler and they wouldn't back it up.

Pelican makes a competing cooler that is similar in design that is sold locally at Pacific Outfitters and Englunds Marine

I can personally vouch for the Yeti coolers.  Having lived in Florida Panhandle during Hurricane Ivan & Katrina, a charter captain friend & I stored all our food in a VERY large one. ... filled with Ice ... close to 3-weeks later, there was still about 20% ice left despite the Florida heat.

They are $$$ but hold ice.  Preserved hundreds of lbs. of red snapper, grouper, mahi & mack from going bad till power was restored.

How much space was left after stuffing so much ice into it?

it was the 150 qt one...So enough room to put all the "cold required" food and drinks for a family of 4. It weighed about 150lbs....but only had to buy one small bag of ice at shelter. The blocks were still 1/2 there when we got home.

I got it at a garage sale a few years ago for $20!
