Alan,  Great pics.  Looks like you had a great time.  I went to Alaska few years ago for a "family" trip and did a 3/4 day trip for Halibut out of Seward.  Nothing near the size of fish you guys got into.  Can't wait to go back on a "fishing trip".

Thanks for sharing.

Mike

Hey Alan,

Great pics/story

I laughed about the kayak because I ended up picking up a couple of them myself to give it a try.  Not sure they will fit in the Grady though.
I have not actually caught a fish on a kayak yet but I have bought most of the toys to give it a try.  Just need a wet suit and time now...........

the yaks will fit.   i've already figured out how to stow the yaks on my boat.  you think a 48 pound halibut would be tough?  try an albacore that weighs in at half that amount.  poor joel will have to buy a new wetsuit!  i can hardly wait!   :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Thanks for taking me to Alaska with that report.
Seeing you fishing at 11pm is amazing. When the action is that hot for that long when do you find time to sleep????

Alan....I hate you  :smt003

what a little speedo cry baby.

Excellent images excellent story.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!

there's no doubt. this was absolutely the best fishing trip that i have ever been on. remember, this is long range fishing, alaska style. the difference between this and a day boat out of seward is the same as a 5-day trip to the 'lupe or cedros versus a day boat out of san diego. i remember the captain saying that the long range trips opened up 180 miles of coastline that would not normally be accessable to day boats. i went there to catch ling cod. i came away realizing that halibut fishing offered the greater challenge.

overall, i think i did pretty good on the week. i only busted out the insert on one rod tip, i only trashed one reel, and i only hit the skipper in the head with a fishing weight one time (that last one had me worried!)  :smt012 oh, and best of all, i hooked my first keeper fish on a kayak and made a little girl very happy.  :smt007  can't wait until next year. we may have to get two boats and take over the entire lodge.

Alaska is on my list of things to do (fish)! I'm just trying to imagine subduing one of the 50lbs 'chickens'.
Looking forward to your Progear diagnosis as it was a highly touted reel for us kayak fishermen.
