I have been invited by new family to go up to Van Damme State Park in June.  They belong to a Dive club, I plan on brining up big red do some fishing while they dive for abs. I may give diving a try while I am there, haven't fully committed to it yet.  If I am not mistaken I should be up there after rockfish season opens up there.  I am also planning on brining a crab trap or two and try my luck and see what happens.  Does anyone have any tips?  What works better than other stuff good areas?  Any all info is appreciated!  My goal is to finally bag a ling is possible.

VD is a great place to camp. Make sure you check out the caves on the right side as you are looking out from the beach. You can go in them with your yak, its safe. Not sure where to fish, but I did hear the crabbing is not very good (I never tried it myself tho). Good luck and post a report!!!

Ab guts on #2 or #3 octo hooks work well for Sea Trout, Cabs and Kelpies there in and around the beds and holes adjacent to rock formations. Squid-tipped jigs in deeper water (go with other kayakers there) draw Lings, there have been lots of smaller ones in fairly close.
