Mooch-The reel with the line coming out of the side is cool, and still made! It now called a wright-McGill freeline, and I have caught a TON of fish on them.  Should be 1:1 with no drag, and turn backwards to freespool?  Load it up with some good line, put it on a 5/6 weight flyrod, and throw trout tackle a mile!!!

Cool reel I have a couple also. Here one's for you Joel the drag was added on it part of the handle not the reel.
Also an old Bucks Spoon Plug might work for Ling Trolling.

Here's one from my cupboard.  South Bend 550 level wind "anti-backlash."  the drag is  the knob on the edge, upper left.  No free spool, the handle just spins backwards.

A guy came into the radio staion after a show a couple years ago and gave me a bumch of old "junk," including this reel and  my famous "Crappie Stalker" collapsible 14 ft cane-type pole.

Treasure!

I went to The State Fair today and wandered around the exhibits. One was on Calif water use and management.
They had a small display of old fishing gear.

Here's a fishing license from 1937...$2.

An old Bronson reel

A mouse or rat lure

Old wooden lures

This little piggy said he wanted to grow up to be a fishermans dinner at the Ono Grill.
