They're correct.  you turned the wrong way.  Straight out to the mile buoy and slighlty east at 50ft there's little outcrop reefs.  due east mile buoy 60FOW iholds rockies and lings.
(and, I've caught plenty of flatties between the harbor and the SC Wharf, even a random lingcod or two.....)

         There's usually a group of fishing boats  in that area.        Also some nice Cabbies to add to the score.
