I was at Fisherman's Warehouse and asked their advice on getting better educated regarding fishing from my Kayak.  Several of the sales people directed me to "Joel" and said he would be a very good person to contact and that I could find him on this site. They said there are a number of experienced kayak fishermen that fish with him and they said they wouldn't mind helping to train a novice. My friend and I have been launching from Santa Cruz Harbor.

Thanks

Sweet, another Santa Cruz (or therabouts) yak fisher.

I'm not Joel, and I'm not the best guy to talk to about NorCal ocean kayaking, but I do freshwater all the time and bay fishing with calm ocean tossed in (I get very seasick).  I can help you out a bunch with freshwater kayak fishing.

Welcome to the site, you will find everyone here is very willing to help you.

Welcome aboard... you shouldn't have any problems finding advice from the many many many great guys on this board. If you have any specific questions... just post away and you'll get a ton of responses. If you can make to HMB this coming Sunday, it would give you a great chance to meet a bunch of the guys... Aw, I didn't forget him, I just said I wasn't him.  3 hours later I thought to myself "hey self, you should have told that newbie to PM Mooch"....Then life occured.

Now I am here and I was gonna tell him to contact Mooch, but it has been done.  And I got spanked at the same time.

 :smt010

Heh....

BTW, where is Mooch?

THanks for the kind words gentlemen :smt002

Hi Marmite - welcome to the madness :smt003 Sorry for not responding right away (I don't have a computer at home - so I only get to check the site during the weekdays - at work) Anyway, Santa Cruz is not my specialty, but I'd be more than happy to show you around Half Moon Bay and Linda Mar. Fishing in Santa Cruz is tough cause EVERYONE fishes there (nicer weather, easy launch, bikinis prancing around the shorelines :smt007) If you fish SC, I suggest you hook up with Allen Bushnell (scallen) who guides that area - including Davenport and Monterey = he'll put you on the fish   :smt023 There other locals also fish there as well - Fuzzy Tom, and Big Red / Joel.

Anyway, just keep an eye on the hook-up section - finding someone experienced to fish with on a kayak is easy to come by. The veterans on this board are all very active and very generous about sharing their knowledge.

Hope you can make it the HMB derby this Sunday - it will be a blast - just like all our Nor Cal derbys. It will be a great way to meet the rest of the "family" :smt002

Feel free to post any questions you might have - you'll definitely get an ear full of great suggestions, tips and advice from this board  :smt002

Feel free to PM me if you need anymore info - I'm always on the water on the weekends  :surf

You can also use "search"  for topics regarding Fish Finders, PFDs,safety devices, paddles....ect.

Hi Marimite:

I launch out of the west harbor and would be happy to have company. Allen and Brandon are a good resource for S.C. I booked with Alllen to get a heads up and, shortly after caught a keeper butt on Allens' Scupper Pro. Mooch now has that lucky Pro Yak. Maybe he will let you touch the pro for good luck.

P.S. check my link for a pick of my first Butt
